WEV began providing programming for women in the areas of employment, economic literacy, and personal finance in 1987. In 1991, WEV established its self-employment training and microloan programs. Today WEV provides services throughout Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties and licenses its training curriculum to organizations throughout the state.

The Commission on the Status of Women is an official advisory group to the San Luis Obispo County Board of Supervisors. The Commission on the Status of Women has been in existence since 1975 in San Luis Obispo County. The Commission identifies issues of concern to the women of San Luis Obispo County that are not currently the focus of other advocacy or advisory organizations. These may include, but not limited to: education and vocational opportunities; medical and legal services; credit and loan policies; rape and other violent crimes against women; criminal justice policies and procedures; housing and transportation facilities; recreational programs and facilities; childcare needs of women.
The Commission exists to serve the women and girls of California, and isthe vehicle through which all their voices can be heard. With theadvice and support of elected officials, the commissioners can create arealistic agenda for women and girls, and make great strides forward.We are also developing ways for government and the private sector tobetter serve their needs.
